According to Rahul Gandhi, Sahil was among the students participating in a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20 when police allegedly used a pellet gun against him. Gandhi claimed that Sahil suffered serious injuries in the incident and that his eyesight in one eye is now under threat.
Describing the alleged action as a serious matter, the Congress leader said that the use of force against a peaceful protester was not only unlawful but also amounted to a grave offence.
Rahul Gandhi also questioned the silence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the incident, alleging that no explanation had been given to the affected students and no apology had been offered.
He further alleged that Sahil was facing difficulties in getting an FIR registered while seeking legal action over the incident. Gandhi said this amounted to a violation of constitutional rights and undermined the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
Releasing hi statement on ‘X’ Rahul Gandhi said that attempts to prevent the registration of an FIR would not stop the pursuit of justice. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and called for action against all those found responsible.
“The FIR will be registered, a judicial inquiry will take place, and those responsible for this brutality will be held accountable,” Gandhi asserted, adding that justice must be ensured not only for Sahil Lochab but for every student who may have suffered during the alleged police action.
