New Delhi : India and Sri Lanka held a high-level bilateral meeting on cooperation in the power sector in New Delhi, reviewing the progress of key joint energy initiatives and exploring avenues to deepen collaboration.
The Indian delegation was led by Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, while the Sri Lankan delegation was headed by Sri Lankan Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation and Minister of Energy Anura Karunathilake.
According to the Ministry of Power, the two Ministers reviewed the progress of ongoing bilateral projects, including the proposed India–Sri Lanka High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Interconnection and the Sampur Solar Power Project.
The discussions also covered opportunities to strengthen cooperation in cross-border electricity trade, renewable energy, transmission infrastructure, and capacity building. During the meeting, the Indian side shared its experience in developing power transmission systems through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Both sides reviewed progress under existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration in the power sector to support sustainable development and regional energy security.
Union Minister Manohar Lal reiterated India’s commitment to the long-standing India–Sri Lanka energy partnership, while Minister Anura Karunathilake appreciated India’s continued support and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
