New Delhi : The Monsoon Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly commenced on Thursday with the singing of Vande Mataram, as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta outlined the Delhi Government’s legislative agenda focused on public welfare, governance reforms and housing.
The Chief Minister said Vande Mataram is the eternal expression of India’s national consciousness and devotion to the motherland. She said its rendition in the House reinforces the government’s commitment to placing the nation first and working with dedication for public welfare, good governance and the vision of a Viksit Delhi.
CM Rekha Gupta announced that the government would introduce several important public welfare bills and proposals during the session.
Among the key proposals is a Bill to extend the cut-off date under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme from 2015 to January 1, 2025. According to the Chief Minister, the move will enable eligible families living in nearly 99 per cent of Delhi’s slum clusters to benefit from permanent housing.
The government will also introduce the Right to Service Act, aimed at ensuring that citizens receive government services within a stipulated time frame. The proposed legislation includes provisions for penalties and fines against officials who fail to deliver services within the prescribed timeline.
In addition, the Delhi Government will place a proposal before the Assembly to discontinue the existing Bed & Breakfast Scheme and replace it with a new framework tailored to Delhi’s requirements. The Chief Minister said the new arrangement is intended to enhance public safety, security and administrative efficiency.
