New Delhi : Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal on Friday launched a fresh attack on the Centre over the issue of student protests, saying that if RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat is genuinely concerned about Generation Z, he should ask Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resign or come to Parliament and apologise to the students.
Reiterating the Congress party’s stand, Venugopal said the party would continue to support students protesting over genuine issues. “Our position is very clear: wherever students are holding genuine protests over genuine issues, we will stand with them,” he said.
The Congress leader also strongly opposed the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill (FCRA Bill), accusing the government of attempting to push through an important legislation while Parliament is not functioning smoothly.
He said the proposed law would affect lakhs of people, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and minority communities, adding that the Opposition would not allow the government to pass the Bill under such circumstances.
Referring to the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme scheduled to be held in Prayagraj on August 8, Venugopal asserted that the event would go ahead despite any attempts to stop it.
“If anyone wants to stop it, let them try. But we will go ahead with it,” he said.
