The funeral ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished military and civilian dignitaries who gathered to pay their final respects to one of the Indian Army’s most respected former Chiefs.
Among those who paid tribute were Mizoram Governor General (Retd.) V.K. Singh, former Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, the three serving Service Chiefs, senior military leadership and several civil dignitaries.
Veterans, serving personnel of the Armed Forces and citizens from different walks of life also attended the ceremony to honour the memory and distinguished service of General V.N. Sharma.
The ceremonial farewell reflected the nation’s gratitude for General Sharma’s decades of dedicated service to the country and his leadership of the Indian Army. The final rites were conducted in accordance with military traditions, with full honours befitting a former Chief of the Army Staff.
General Vishwa Nath Sharma, a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), is remembered for his distinguished military career and significant contributions to strengthening the Indian Army. His leadership, professionalism and commitment to national security earned him immense respect within the Armed Forces and across the country.
The Indian Army described the occasion as a solemn farewell to one of its most distinguished leaders, whose legacy of service, courage and dedication will continue to inspire future generations of soldiers.
