Developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of over ₹5,640 crore, the airport has been designed to handle six million passengers annually and is expected to significantly improve air connectivity in Andhra Pradesh.

The passenger terminal incorporates advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Airside 4.0 technologies, Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC), biometric passenger processing, automated baggage handling systems, and intelligent operational monitoring solutions to enhance operational efficiency and passenger convenience.

The airport also features several sustainability initiatives such as a 5 MW solar power plant, energy-efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, smart building management systems, waste management facilities, and environmental monitoring systems. The terminal has been designed in accordance with Green Building Standards and is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Architecturally, the airport reflects the cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh. Its roof profile is inspired by traditional Chuttilu cottages and the landscapes of the Araku Valley, while its flowing design symbolises the graceful movement of a flying fish.

The airport is expected to provide a major boost to tourism, trade, investment, employment generation, and regional connectivity.
