New Delhi : The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday called off its agitation at Jantar Mantar following talks with the Central Government. The decision came after a meeting between a CJP delegation and Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh, after which the leaders jointly addressed the media.
The meeting concluded with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh shaking hands with CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das and National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, symbolising the end of the protest.
Addressing the joint press conference, Union Minister J.P. Nadda said the government had responded positively to the demands raised by the delegation. Referring to the issue of compensation, he said the government had conveyed its position in clear terms and expressed sympathy for those affected.
“We have assured that compensation will be provided in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations, and that every effort will be made to provide the maximum possible relief,” Nadda said.
He also referred to the five-point charter on education and examination reforms submitted by the CJP, stating that the government would examine the proposals seriously. He said discussions with the delegation would continue and that the Centre would make every effort to consider and implement feasible reforms.
“In my view, all the demands presented before us have been accepted with sympathy and understanding,” the Union Minister added.
Following the meeting, CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka announced the withdrawal of the agitation, stating that the government had accepted all of the organisation’s demands.
“All our demands have been accepted. We request all protesters to withdraw immediately and return home peacefully. We will inform everyone about our future strategy and any further course of action at an appropriate time,” Ranka said.
During the joint press conference, CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das strongly condemned incidents of violence reported during the protest.
“Whoever was responsible for these violent acts, and those anti-social elements who incited people against the media and the public, deserve condemnation. Such anti-social elements had infiltrated the CJP, and we strongly denounce their actions,” Das said.
Meanwhile, protesters began vacating the Jantar Mantar protest site soon after the announcement.
A senior Delhi Police officer confirmed that the dispersal process had commenced and said the situation was being closely monitored.
“People have already started dispersing. We are monitoring the situation and request everyone to remain calm and leave peacefully. We also appeal to the public not to create any law and order issues. The police are here to assist, and we urge everyone to maintain peace,” the officer said.
The withdrawal of the protest marks the end of the agitation after negotiations between the CJP leadership and the Central Government, with both sides indicating that dialogue on examination reforms and related issues will continue in the coming days.
