New Delhi /Colombo, Sri Lanka: India has further strengthened its commitment towards building a climate-resilient healthcare system in Sri Lanka with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a SLR 600 million Indian grant to provide advanced medical equipment to Base Hospital, Deniyaya.
High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, signed the MoU with Secretary, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, in the presence of Hon. Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
The grant assistance will support the hospital’s relocation to a safe and disaster-resilient location and equip several critical healthcare facilities, including the Emergency Unit, Operating Theatres, High Dependency Unit (HDU), and Special Care Baby Unit with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure.
The initiative is part of India’s USD 450 million rehabilitation assistance package for Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah.
Highlighting the deep-rooted partnership between the two countries, the project reflects India’s continued commitment towards supporting Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector and promoting a safe, resilient and sustainable neighbourhood under the spirit of the India-Sri Lanka partnership.
