Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh: An American citizen was detained near the Sonauli India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh after allegedly attempting to cross into Nepal through an unauthorised route without valid travel documents, Media reported .
The detained individual has been identified as 36-year-old Jordan Brown, a US national, who claimed before authorities that he was a former US Navy Special Forces officer.
According to officials, Brown informed authorities that he had lost his passport in Thailand, leaving him without valid travel documents while attempting to move across the international border.
During questioning, Brown also claimed that he had reached India by sea from Sri Lanka in November 2025.
Authorities are currently conducting further verification and investigation into his background, travel history and the circumstances surrounding his attempted border crossing.
