Patna: Authorities in Bihar have arrested a Ukrainian woman near the India-Nepal border for allegedly staying in India without valid immigration documents.

The woman has been identified as Oksana Shevtsova, a Ukrainian national. According to officials, she was detained after authorities questioned her about her legal status and found that she was unable to present valid travel documents confirming her authorised stay in India.

During questioning, the woman reportedly failed to provide original passport and visa documents required to verify her immigration status. Later, she showed electronic copies of her passport and visa on her mobile phone.

However, after examination, the documents were allegedly found to have expired in 2022, raising concerns over her continued stay in the country beyond the permitted period.

Officials are conducting further investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her stay in India and whether any immigration regulations were violated.

The case comes as security agencies continue to monitor movement along border areas, particularly regions close to international boundaries, to prevent illegal entry, overstay, and other immigration-related violations.

Further action will be taken according to the findings of the investigation and applicable legal provisions.
