New Delhi/Athens : Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has begun a high-level visit to Greece, leading an Indian business delegation aimed at boosting bilateral trade, investment and strategic economic cooperation. The visit follows his engagements in the United Kingdom, where discussions focused on expanding commercial partnerships between the two countries.
UK Visit Reinforces Trade Momentum
Before arriving in Greece, Goyal concluded his UK visit by participating in the India–UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary in London. The event brought together leading business representatives from both nations, who expressed strong support for the proposed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), describing it as a key step towards strengthening trade and investment relations.
The engagements in the UK and Greece are part of the government’s broader strategy to expand India’s global economic partnerships under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Focus on Innovation and Startups
During the Greece visit, the Indian delegation will take part in presentations and startup pitching sessions at The Athens Startup Business Incubator (THEA). The initiative is expected to promote collaboration between Indian and Greek startups while encouraging innovation-driven partnerships.
Industry Roundtables Across Key Sectors
The delegation will also participate in business roundtable meetings with Indian and Greek industry leaders at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
The discussions will focus on sectors such as infrastructure, digital technologies, defence, food processing and agriculture, with the objective of identifying fresh business opportunities and expanding private-sector collaboration.
Expanding Business and Investment Opportunities
As part of the programme, senior business leaders from both countries will engage in high-level interactions to explore investment prospects and commercial partnerships across priority industries.
The Indian delegation will also visit leading Greek companies to examine opportunities for cooperation in advanced manufacturing and technology-led industries, further strengthening industrial collaboration between India and Greece.
The visit will conclude with meetings involving key business and institutional stakeholders, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade, encouraging investment and building long-term economic partnerships between the two countries.
