New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday awarded the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction by the President of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, in recognition of his contributions to environmental conservation, climate action and the promotion of the Blue Economy.
The prestigious honour, being conferred for the first time, recognises Modi’s efforts in advancing the interests of developing nations and his sustained commitment to sustainable ocean resource management and the development priorities of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
PM Dedicates Award to Global Environmental Efforts
Accepting the honour, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to all countries working towards environmental protection and combating climate change.
He said the recognition, which comes as India and Seychelles celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, reflects the deep friendship between the two nations and is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Recognition for Global Sustainability Initiatives
The award acknowledges Modi’s leadership in promoting several global environmental initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and the International Big Cat Alliance.
It also adds to a series of international recognitions he has received for advancing sustainable development, including the Agricola Medal from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Seoul Peace Prize, and the United Nations’ Champion of the Earth Award.
Strengthening India-Seychelles Partnership
According to the official statement, the honour highlights Seychelles’ appreciation of India’s growing role as a trusted development partner, particularly in areas such as capacity building, environmental protection, sustainable development and regional cooperation across the Indian Ocean.
The recognition also reflects the expanding partnership between India and Seychelles in addressing shared environmental and developmental priorities.
