-Energy Minister Directs Crackdown on Power Theft, Sets Recovery Deadline
Chandigarh/Gurugram: Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij has directed officials to intensify recovery of pending electricity dues, stating that notices will be issued within 15 days under the Land Recovery Act India to consumers whose connections have been permanently disconnected. He emphasized that the recovery process must be completed within the stipulated timeframe without any laxity.
The minister revealed that the state is undertaking special drives to recover outstanding dues amounting to nearly ₹8,200 crore. He added that enhanced coordination with various government departments will help expedite the recovery process.
Highlighting efforts to curb power theft, Vij said strict action is being taken against offenders, who will be given a final opportunity to clear their dues through fresh notices issued under the same legal framework.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply, he instructed officials during a recent review meeting to avoid unnecessary disruptions, especially during the peak summer season. He also directed that consumer complaints be addressed promptly, with faulty transformers in urban areas to be replaced within two hours and within four hours in rural areas.
To strengthen infrastructure, the minister called for the availability of adequate transformer banks and mobile trolleys in every subdivision. He also mandated the regular submission of daily power supply reports to his office.
In preparation for adverse weather conditions, Vij directed officials to ensure timely pruning of trees around 11 kV and 33 kV feeders to minimize disruptions during rains and storms. He also stressed the need for sufficient transportation arrangements for transformers to avoid inconvenience to farmers.
Underscoring safety, the minister made it mandatory for all technical staff to use prescribed safety gear and adhere strictly to safety protocols. He also emphasized improved material availability, transparent inventory management, and the use of online monitoring systems within the department.
On renewable energy, Vij said efforts under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana will be accelerated to meet the target of providing solar power to 2.2 lakh households by March 2027. Monthly targets will be assigned to officials to ensure timely implementation.
He concluded by urging all departments to work in close coordination to guarantee uninterrupted, safe, and high-quality power supply across Haryana, ensuring that citizens face minimal inconvenience.
