-US to Intercept Ships in International Waters, Trump Signals Escalation Pressure on Iran

New Delhi : Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump has claimed that recent talks yielded partial agreement but failed on what he described as the most critical issue—nuclear concerns—prompting a strong response from the United States.

In a detailed statement, Trump asserted that the United States Navy would immediately begin steps to block ships entering or exiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that this move is aimed at countering what he termed as “global extortion,” alleging that vessels are being forced to pay illegal tolls linked to Iran.

Trump stated that U.S. naval forces have been instructed to intercept and inspect vessels in international waters that may have complied with such demands. He warned that ships involved in these transactions would not be guaranteed safe passage, signaling a significant escalation in maritime enforcement.

He further indicated that operations would include efforts to neutralize alleged naval mines in the region, while issuing a strong warning that any hostile action against U.S. forces or civilian vessels would be met with decisive retaliation.

Highlighting the broader geopolitical stakes, Trump claimed that Iran has the means to resolve the situation but has chosen not to act. He also suggested that other countries could join the proposed blockade, framing it as a collective effort to prevent unlawful practices in global shipping routes.

The statement underscores rising tensions in the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies. Analysts note that any disruption in this corridor could have far-reaching implications for international trade and security.

Trump concluded by reiterating that the United States would not tolerate what he described as coercive tactics and affirmed readiness for further action if necessary, signaling a hardline stance amid ongoing disputes.
