New Delhi : Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, on Wednesday described the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha as a watershed moment in the state’s development journey.

The Bill grants legal recognition to Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh, ending prolonged uncertainty that had impacted governance, infrastructure development, and investor confidence.

Dr. Sekhar noted that the absence of a clearly designated capital in recent years had led to administrative challenges and delays in key projects. He said the amendment provides a stable and forward-looking framework, reaffirming the vision of a single, world-class capital in line with the original intent of the state’s reorganisation.

Highlighting the contributions of local communities, the Minister paid tribute to thousands of farmers—over 29,000—who voluntarily pooled more than 34,000 acres of land for the development of Amaravati. He also acknowledged the role of women and local residents who sustained a peaceful and disciplined movement for over 1,600 days despite hardships.

He termed the legislation not just a legal step, but a moral reaffirmation that restores dignity, trust, and justice for those who made significant sacrifices for the state’s future.

Reiterating the vision for Amaravati, Dr. Sekhar said the capital is being developed as a global-standard city and a key growth engine for the state. He noted that 91 major infrastructure projects worth over ₹56,000 crore are already underway, with support from national and international institutions, and are expected to boost investments and generate employment.

He further highlighted the land pooling model adopted in Amaravati as a pioneering example of participatory and inclusive development, where farmers have become stakeholders in urban growth.

Emphasising the economic importance of capital cities, the Minister said Amaravati is poised to emerge as a major hub of governance, commerce, and innovation, strengthening the state’s economic prospects.

He credited the development to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the legislation marks a decisive step toward restoring investor confidence and accelerating Andhra Pradesh’s growth trajectory.
