PM Modi Discusses West Asia Crisis with US, Sri Lanka; Calls for De-escalation : MEA

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate telephonic conversations with the President of the United States and the President of Sri Lanka to discuss the evolving situation in West Asia, with a strong emphasis on de-escalation and regional stability.

According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister reiterated India’s call for early restoration of peace and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure for global trade and energy flows.

The discussions also focused on safeguarding critical shipping routes, enhancing coordination for regional peace, and strengthening India–Sri Lanka cooperation in the context of energy security.

India continues to remain actively engaged with regional stakeholders, including Iran, while efforts are underway to ensure the safe evacuation of Indian citizens from affected areas. Evacuation operations are currently being facilitated through routes via Armenia and Azerbaijan.
