New Delhi : Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released the results of its Independent Drive Tests (IDT) conducted in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and along the Vadodara–Ahmedabad Highway during February 2026, offering insights into real-world mobile network performance for telecom consumers.

The drive tests assessed voice and data services across multiple environments including urban areas, hotspots, and transit routes. Using SIM cards from all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks, the exercise captured live performance data through advanced testing devices and analytical tools.

The tests, conducted between February 2 and 6, covered over 460 km of city routes, key hotspot locations, and nearly 95 km of highway stretch under the supervision of TRAI’s Jaipur regional office.

Key Findings:
In Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, most telecom operators demonstrated strong performance in voice services, with high call setup success rates and minimal call drops, although BSNL lagged behind in several parameters including call drop rate and call quality.

In terms of data services, Reliance Jio (RJIL) recorded the highest 5G download and upload speeds, followed by Airtel, while Vodafone Idea (VIL) showed comparatively lower speeds. BSNL’s 5G services were not available in the tested areas.

On the Vadodara–Ahmedabad Highway, voice quality remained largely consistent for most operators except BSNL, which reported significantly higher call drop rates. Data performance trends were similar, with RJIL leading in both download and upload speeds, while BSNL recorded the lowest throughput.

The assessment covered key locations across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, as well as the National Expressway-1 connecting Vadodara and Ahmedabad.

TRAI has shared the findings with all concerned telecom service providers for necessary improvements. The detailed report has been made available on the official TRAI website for public access.
