Gurugram : Under the special campaign launched by the Gurugram Municipal Corporation regarding sanitation, environmental protection, and civic discipline in the city, a total of 317 challans were issued between January 20 and January 28. During this period, fines exceeding Rs. 4 lakh were imposed for various violations.
According to Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, this campaign was launched with the objective of curbing littering in public places, burning of waste, illegal construction activities, and activities that harm the environment. The highest number of challans were issued for the use of polythene, which is a violation of plastic ban rules. Strict action was also taken in cases of burning waste and transporting construction materials without covering them.
Municipal Corporation teams issued challans to 52 violators in different areas who were littering instead of using dustbins. These violators were fined Rs. 26,000. In addition, fines were imposed on 12 violators for burning waste (Rs. 60,000), 25 violators for C&D waste dumping (Rs. 59,500), 10 violators for littering (Rs. 5,000), 7 violators for continuing construction work despite the ban (Rs. 1,10,000), 1 violator for transporting construction material in an uncovered vehicle (Rs. 5,000), 7 violators for wasting water (Rs. 14,000), and 203 violators for using polythene (Rs. 1,21,000).
The Municipal Commissioner stated that burning waste in public places and dumping debris in the open not only increases pollution but also negatively impacts the health of citizens. Keeping this in mind, stricter measures have been implemented against C&D (construction and demolition) waste dumping and garbage burning. Fines were also issued in cases where dust control and safety standards were not followed at construction sites. He appealed to the city residents to follow sanitation rules, avoid using plastic, and ensure proper disposal of construction and household waste. Action will continue to be taken against those who violate the rules.
