New Delhi : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today remembered the terrible tragedy of Partition of India in 1947 in a state level program organized on the occasion of Partition Horror Memorial Day in Faridabad and paid tribute to the pain and struggle of lakhs of displaced families. On this occasion, he announced that an exhibition of literature and documents related to Partition will be organized so that people can get information about Partition. Also, the subject of Partition Horror will be included in the school curriculum, so that the coming generations can get information about the atrocities suffered by our ancestors.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister said that due to social traditions, the names of daughters are changed after marriage and problems arise due to changing the name in the documents, for this a special provision will be made by the Haryana Government to amend the name. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced to give Rs 51 lakh from his discretionary fund for the construction of Partition Horror Memorial Memorial in Kurukshetra. During the program, the Chief Minister and other guests, while paying respect to the ancestors who suffered the pain of Partition, symbolically honored Sardar Mohar Singh Bhatia, who was only 7 years old at the time of Partition, by draping a shawl on him.
Paying emotional tribute to the ancestors who lost their lives in the Partition Horror, the Chief Minister said that this day reminds us of that terrible time of the year 1947, when India was divided. This partition not only divided the country into two parts, but also wrote a deep and painful chapter in the lives of millions of families. Hurt by their suffering, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi called the partition of the country the biggest tragedy of the 20th century. On August 15, 2021, while launching the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on Independence Day, he announced to celebrate ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ in memory of those who lost their lives in this partition.
The pain of partition of the country can never be forgotten
CM Naib Singh Saini said that this land of Haryana has endured the pain of partition a little more. Not only did many families from here go to Pakistan, the number of families coming from the then West Punjab is also more than other states. Of course, today the country has progressed a lot, it has become the world’s largest democracy and the fourth largest economy, but the pain of partition of the country can never be forgotten.
He said that the city of Faridabad is a living proof of that tragedy. When the country was partitioned, lakhs of people left everything and came here. These were the people who had lost their homes, their lands and their heritage. They had an uncertain future, but their spirits were high. It was decided to make Faridabad a new city for their rehabilitation. It was not just a city, but a new ray of hope. The displaced people built this city with their hard work and dedication. They not only built a new city for themselves, but also made this city a major industrial center of Haryana.
He said that a memorial has been built in Badkhal, Faridabad in memory of the victims of the horror of the partition of the country. Partition horror memorials are being built at other places in the state as well. A world-class martyrdom memorial will be built in Masana village of Kurukshetra.
He said that today is not only a day of grief and mourning, but it also teaches us that we have to maintain the unity and integrity of our country. We have to learn from those mistakes that gave rise to such a big tragedy. It is very important for us to understand how dangerous it can be to spread hatred in the name of religion, caste and language.
When the threads of social unity break, the country also breaks.
The Chief Minister said that the sons of Mother India did not fear anyone, did not succumb to any greed and accepted to wander from door to door, giving priority to their country, religion and self-respect. They worked hard with empty hands, hungry and thirsty, and built their homes again. He said that those families and their new generations have played a significant role in the development of Haryana. The sweat shed by those hardworking people has contributed a lot in building the ‘developed Haryana’ that we are seeing today.
The Chief Minister said that today gives us the message of brotherhood. This day will keep reminding us that when the threads of social unity break, the country also breaks. He appealed to take a lesson from that tragedy and pledge to strengthen love, affection and brotherhood. Let us all together take a pledge that we will build such a Haryana and such an India, where brotherhood, peace and harmony are supreme. We will give such a society to the coming generations, which will set an example of unity and humanity.
Congress has forgotten the martyrdom of the heroes, the horror of partition shook the lives of millions of people : Manohar Lal
In his address at the programme, Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal said that the partition of the country before independence was an event that shook the lives of millions of people. He said that at that time people came here not to save their lives but to love their country and to remain steadfast on their religion. Life, land and property could have been saved by changing religion, but they did not choose this path. At that time also it was said that freedom may be late but there should be no partition. He said that the families who came from West Punjab, at that time Pakistan was not even formed, yet those families were called ‘Pakistani’ and ‘refugee’.
He said that when the proposal to give reservation to the displaced people came in that period, the society unitedly said that they did not want reservation. Those people progressed in business, education and social upliftment with hard work and effort. Our identity is as Indian citizens and as a state we are Haryanvi.
Union Minister Manohar Lal said that many heroes contributed to the independence. At that time, instead of remembering the martyrdom, Congress thought it better to forget everything. Attacking the nepotism of Congress, he said that it started during the time of Indira Gandhi, who imposed emergency killing democracy. Today the people of the country have understood Congress. He said that the people chose BJP as an alternative and in 2014, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who is from a simple family, was given the command of the country. Similarly, democracy was respected by making Nayab Singh Saini the Chief Minister. He surrounded the Congress on the allegations of vote theft and said that this is a situation of ‘chor machaye shor’.
Do not forgive, do not forget those responsible for partition – Union Minister of State for Cooperation
In the program, Union Minister of State for Cooperation Shri Krishna Pal Gurjar said that on the call of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a day before Independence Day, the whole country is celebrating Partition Horror Memorial Day today. Who can forget that dark night of 14 August 1947. Jinnah and Nehru’s desire to become Prime Minister and Muslim League’s stubbornness to form the country on the basis of religion led to partition of India. People were forced to leave their homes. Women’s identity was tampered with. Innocent people were massacred.
He said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi called for celebrating this day to tell the coming generations about the day of that partition. He said that former Chief Minister of Haryana and Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal first started the work of celebrating this day in Haryana.
He said that even then Congress had the desire for power, divided this country and even today due to power, they are working to defame the Indian Army all over the world. Even then the Congress Party did not have faith in the people of the country. Even today, there is no faith in the elected government of the country, the army, the courts, the Constitution and neither in constitutional institutions. These people are working to defame the people of India and the army all over the world.
Partition of 1947 is the biggest tragedy in human history – Dr. Krishna Lal Middha
Dr. Krishna Lal Middha, Deputy Speaker of Haryana Legislative Assembly, said that on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, he paid emotional tribute to the lakhs of people who sacrificed their lives during the partition of 1947. He said that the partition of 1947 was one of the most horrific tragedies in human history, in which about 10 to 12 lakh people sacrificed their lives. Lakhs of families were ruined, relatives sacrificed themselves to protect the identity of mothers and sisters, and trains reached the borders filled with dead bodies. He said that the pain of that period is still alive in the memories of generations.
He said that the lust for power of the Congress at that time threw the country into the fire of partition. The lines drawn on the borders divided humanity in the name of religion and border. This partition was not only of geography, but also of hearts.
Dr. Middha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who formally announced Partition Horror Memorial Day by announcing from the ramparts of the Red Fort in 2021, so that the country can remember this sacrifice and generations get an opportunity to learn from that tragedy.
It is necessary to tell the future generation why and because of whom the country was divided – Mohan Lal Kaushik
BJP State President Mohan Lal Kaushik said that the horror of partition was so terrible that countless people became victims of atrocities and many people sacrificed their lives. Today we are paying tribute to all those martyrs who sacrificed their lives at that time. We got this opportunity after 75 years of independence, when the Prime Minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi, announced to celebrate 14 August as Partition Horror Memorial Day, so that all those martyrs can be remembered and the coming generation can be made aware of these memories.
He said that the coming generation should understand why the partition happened and because of whom it happened. The biggest responsible party for this partition was the Congress party, which is even today trying to mislead the people.
