-Opposition Leaders of INDIA Alliance Demand Discussion on SIR in Parliament

New Delhi : Vote theft is being carried out in Bihar through SIR. Modi government is hatching this conspiracy in connivance with the Election Commission. The opposition wants a discussion on this in Parliament, but the government is constantly adjourning the House to avoid questions on SIR. This is against democracy. This allegation was made by the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in a press conference today. Earlier today, the leaders of INDIA alliance demonstrated in the Parliament premises regarding their demand and demanded a discussion in Parliament on the revision of the voter list being done by the Election Commission in Bihar.

Vote Theft is Being Carried out in Bihar through SIR : Mallikarjun Kharge 2Addressing the joint press conference of India Alliance, the Congress President and the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said that a question mark has been raised on the process of the Election Commission, so we want that SIR should be discussed in the House. But the government does not want to discuss SIR.

He said that all opposition parties want a discussion on SIR. All parties have repeatedly asked the Speaker, Chairman and the government to discuss vote theft. He alleged that the current government increases votes wherever it understands and now it is cutting votes in Bihar. The Congress leader demanded that we should get a chance to discuss SIR, so that where there has been a mess, work is being done in an unconstitutional manner, it can be discussed and people’s rights can be protected.

Mr. Kharge said that if people’s names are not in the voter list, then their citizenship will also be in danger and a situation of doubt will be created. He alleged that

In Bihar, votes of Dalits, backward, tribals, minorities are being cut in the name of SIR. The rights of migrant laborers are being snatched away. He said that our demand is that SIR should be discussed in Parliament. We are all raising this demand unanimously, but the government is not ready for discussion.

He said that we will put full pressure on the government and if the government does not agree, then it will be understood that the government does not believe in the Constitution-Democracy.

In response to a question, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said that on July 21, 2023, Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar ji had said – we can discuss everything happening on earth. But, the current chairman says – there can be no discussion related to Election Commission or SIR in the House. One chairman talks about discussing every issue, then another imposes a ban. He said that every issue has been discussed in Parliament till date, so we can discuss SIR, SIR should be discussed in the House.

Samajwadi Party chief and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav said on the SIR issue, “Democracy will be strengthened only when everyone exercises their right to vote. But, when this right to vote is taken away, then where do we raise our voice?”

CPI’s Rajya Sabha MP P. Santosh Kumar said, “All political parties except BJP and its so-called allies are opposing SIR. The voter list published by the Election Commission for Bihar elections is the result of SIR. Therefore, we want all eligible voters to be included in the list.”

Congress MP Praniti Shinde said, “Our protest on the SIR issue has been going on for many days. We are just demanding a discussion, but the BJP is killing democracy every day. Despite such a big scam related to SIR and voter list, they are not ready to have even a simple discussion. What can be a bigger attack on democracy than this?”

Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram told IANS, “SIR is a very serious issue. It is depriving people of their right to vote. It is also a diabolical conspiracy to add migrant workers to the voter list of other states, especially Tamil Nadu.”

Congress MP Imran Masood said, “Questions are being raised on the impartiality of the Election Commission. Democracy will not survive if the Election Commission acts arbitrarily.”
