Chandigarh, March 19 : A total of 297 FIRs have been registered by Haryana Police in the last 10 years against hate speeches and social media handles etc. for spoiling the peaceful atmosphere in the society. During this period, 472 accused have been arrested and the URLs of 502 social media handles have been removed from the Internet.
Giving information about this, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapoor said that in the present changing environment, every person is actively using technology. Along with the good use of technology, the possibilities of its misuse are also relatively high. Haryana Police is actively working to take action against hate speeches in the society and maintain law and order. Through continuous monitoring and prompt action, law enforcement agencies have taken action in cases related to hate speeches on social media platforms. He said that out of the total 297 cases registered in this regard during the last 10 years, 87.87 percent of the cases have been resolved by taking prompt action.
Along with this, the activities of people who like and share the posts of gangsters on social media platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube etc. are specially monitored by the team of Crime Branch of Haryana Police. The posts put up by gangsters on social media mislead people, especially the youth, due to which they are attracted towards crime. Such youth are identified by Haryana Police and their family members are called and counseling of the children is done. Mr. Kapoor also appealed to the general public not to like and share the posts uploaded by gangsters and not to become a part of any gangster’s group.
Mr. Kapoor informed that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the state of Haryana has been authorized as the nodal agency to remove objectionable content from social media. Along with this, police officers have been instructed to take necessary steps to stop the spread of irresponsible messages, videos and other content on various social media platforms, which have a tendency to incite any kind of mob violence. Also, action should be taken under legal provisions against the persons who spread such messages and videos. He said that Haryana Police is committed to maintaining peace and harmony in the society and any tampering with law and order will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against them.
Monitoring process :
Mr. Kapoor informed that Haryana Police has set up a separate social media wing in CID to keep an eye on those who spread hate speech on social media, in which the deployed personnel keep a 24-hour surveillance. Haryana Police has identified 220 violence-spreading people (instigators and influencers) and 400 troublemakers. As soon as any post is updated on the social media accounts of these people, it is investigated and if objectionable and provocative content is found, action is taken as per rules.
