-Patients from Seven States to Benefit from the Under-Construction NCDC in Ambala Cantt : Anil Vij
Chandigarh, March 16 : Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij said that the National Disease Control Center (NCDC) being built in Naggal, Ambala Cantt, will provide disease-related testing facilities along with research work, benefiting not only India but also the world.
During his inspection of the under-construction NCDC in Naggal, Ambala, on Sunday, Anil Vij reviewed the progress and discussed the ongoing work with CPWD and health department officials.
₹17 Crore Laboratory to Be Built on 4 Acres for Research & Testing
Energy Minister Anil Vij stated that land has been acquired for a laboratory where research on diseases will be conducted alongside testing. The laboratory is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹17 crore. Scientists will be stationed here for research and testing, benefiting patients from seven states, including Haryana, who will no longer need to travel to Delhi or Pune for testing. This facility will help people from Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan, and the western and northern regions of the country.
First Phase Near Completion, Main Building to Be Built Next
Anil Vij mentioned that the first phase of construction is progressing and will be completed soon. After that, the main building will be built on 4 acres. The CPWD is working on the lab construction as per NCDC guidelines.
During his inspection, Anil Vij reviewed the progress and asked officials about the timeline for completing the first phase and subsequent work plans.The inspection was attended by Civil Surgeon Dr. Rakesh Sahal, Dr. Hitesh Verma, Dr. Sanjeev Aggarwal, Dr. Sanjeev Hari, Naib Tehsildar Sunil Kumar, Councillor Shyam Sunder Arora, BJP leader Paramjit Singh, Jasbir Jassi, Fakirchand Saini, Rajeev Tyagi, Sanjeev Walia, and other officials.
Why Ambala Cantt Was Chosen for NCDC
Ambala Cantt was selected for NCDC due to its excellent connectivity via air, rail, and road networks. It is also close to Atal Cancer Care Center, Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt, and three medical colleges, ensuring a steady supply of research samples.
The NCDC branch will play a key role in detecting, controlling, and preventing infectious diseases like:
Ebola Virus Disease (2014),Pandemic Influenza A H1N1 (2009-10) and SARS outbreak. It will also help in managing waterborne and airborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A and E, chickenpox, and measles.

First Floor: Sample collection & utility rooms, Waiting rooms, lobby Climate change room, EOC room Training room, IDSP, epidemiology staff room, Pantry and other rooms
Second Floor: Labs with equipment Climate change room, macro lab (bacteriology), AMR lab Teaching & demo room, AMR officer room, Virology lab, lobby, and other rooms.
Third Floor:Non-BSL lab area, BSL-2 lab area, Staff common room, open terrace, Pantry and other rooms.Two elevators for the entire building The establishment of NCDC in Ambala Cantt is expected to significantly enhance disease control and research efforts in North India, he said.
