President Highlights India’s Cultural and Spiritual Heritage, Calls for Connecting Younger Generations with Traditions; Emphasises Environmental Conservation and Cleanliness
Nashik : President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu attended the Dhwaj Stambh Pujan, Dhwaja Pujan and Dhwajarohan ceremonies marking the preparations for the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Maha Kumbh 2027 in Maharashtra on Saturday. She also addressed a public gathering on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted the centuries-old legacy and immense cultural, social and spiritual significance of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Maha Kumbh. She observed that the Kumbh celebrations held at four prominent locations across India—Haridwar on the banks of the Ganga, Prayagraj at the Triveni Sangam, Ujjain along the Shipra River and Nashik on the banks of the Godavari—have earned global recognition.
She noted that the uninterrupted continuation of these massive religious gatherings over centuries reflects the enduring strength of India’s historical, cultural, social and spiritual traditions.
Emphasising the deeper significance of the Kumbh gatherings, President Murmu said that the congregation of millions of devotees over generations represents India’s cultural and spiritual unity and the continuity of its ancient traditions. These occasions, she added, are powerful expressions of collective faith and social harmony.
Expressing confidence in the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Maha Kumbh 2027, she said the event would provide an important platform to connect India’s rich heritage with contemporary society. She also expressed hope that the occasion would inspire younger generations to understand, embrace and carry forward the country’s magnificent cultural legacy and fundamental values of life.
Addressing environmental and agricultural challenges, the President drew attention to the difficulties being faced by people worldwide due to extreme weather events. Referring particularly to drought conditions in several parts of India, including Maharashtra, she expressed concern over their impact on communities, especially farmers. She stated that both the Central and State Governments are making concerted efforts to extend necessary assistance to citizens, particularly farmers, as they deal with these challenges.
The President also stressed the importance of environmental responsibility, cleanliness and public awareness. Calling upon citizens to make continuous efforts towards protecting the environment, she underlined that conservation requires both individual commitment and collective participation.
Expressing confidence in the arrangements for the forthcoming Maha Kumbh, President Murmu said that the combined efforts of the event management authorities and active public participation could establish an exemplary benchmark in cleanliness and scientific waste management during the Nashik gathering.
She urged everyone to contribute towards making the historic religious congregation not only a celebration of India’s spiritual heritage but also an example of environmental awareness, civic responsibility and sustainable event management.
