PM Narendra Modi Highlights India’s FinTech Success, Calls for Global Expansion of UPI

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Global FinTech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, highlighting India’s remarkable journey in financial technology and the transformative impact of Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Emphasising India’s emergence as a global FinTech leader, the Prime Minister called for expanding the global footprint of UPI and taking India’s digital payment experience to more countries.

PM Modi said the next phase of India’s FinTech journey must go beyond digital payments, with greater innovation in areas such as credit, insurance, savings, investments and pensions. He stressed the need to use technology to make financial services more accessible, affordable and inclusive.

The Prime Minister also called for greater adoption of emerging technologies, including Agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum technologies, to drive the next generation of financial innovation.

Highlighting the growing importance of trust and security in digital finance, PM Modi underlined the need for top-notch cybersecurity, robust digital infrastructure and ethical protection of consumer data.

He further called for strengthening the FinTech Consumer Protection Index and creating an ecosystem that balances consumer safety with greater innovation.

The Prime Minister’s address at Global FinTech Fest 2026 underscored India’s ambition to move from being a major digital payments success story to a global hub for comprehensive, technology-driven financial services.
