New Delhi: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and BJP leader J.P. Nadda has sharply criticised Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his dharna outside the Parliament Street Police Station, alleging that the protest was motivated by political frustration rather than concern for students or the pursuit of justice.
Nadda said Rahul Gandhi’s protest over the alleged pellet-gun injury suffered by student Sahil Lochab was an attempt to attract media attention. He argued that the matter is already being examined through a judicial process, with the Supreme Court having taken cognisance of the July 20 incident and constituted a five-member committee to look into allegations of police excesses.
Questioning the rationale behind Gandhi’s sit-in, Nadda asked why the Leader of Opposition chose to protest outside a police station when the matter was already under investigation and the judiciary was seized of it.
The BJP leader also linked Gandhi’s protest to the ongoing political controversy surrounding ‘Vande Mataram’. Nadda alleged that the Congress was facing public questions over the issue and had used the police station protest to shift attention from the controversy. He also referred to an incident involving a senior Congress leader and a cake featuring the Tricolour, alleging that the party was trying to move away from the resulting political embarrassment.
Nadda maintained that India’s democratic system functions through the Constitution, law and judicial procedures, and not through political pressure or public demonstrations staged for media attention.
He further accused Rahul Gandhi of adopting a “hit-and-run” style of politics and alleged that the Congress leader’s actions reflected political frustration rather than a genuine effort to secure justice.
The BJP leader asserted that the public is closely watching the developments and will continue to demand answers from the Congress on the issues surrounding the Vande Mataram controversy.
