New Delhi / Kathmandu : Reports from Kathmandu indicate a renewed diplomatic exchange over longstanding border issues between Nepal and India, with local authorities in Nepal now reportedly suggesting that outstanding matters be addressed through formal diplomatic channels.

According to these reports, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah had earlier floated the idea of involving third-party facilitation, including the possibility of the United Kingdom being part of discussions between Nepal and India. However, this proposal was not accepted by India, which has maintained that all bilateral issues should be resolved directly between the two countries without third-party mediation.

The boundary dispute involving Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani remains a sensitive and long-standing issue in India–Nepal relations. The area has been a subject of differing territorial claims over the years, periodically leading to diplomatic exchanges between the two sides.

Recent developments suggest a shift in tone, with Nepal now emphasizing resolution through established diplomatic mechanisms. Officials and observers note that discussions on such issues continue within the broader framework of bilateral engagement between New Delhi and Kathmandu.

The matter remains under diplomatic consideration as both sides continue to navigate the complex historical and political dimensions of the border issue.
