New Delhi/Mumbai : The Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2026 concluded in Mumbai after four days of discussions involving KP Participants, Observers, industry representatives and civil society organisations on the future of the global natural diamond industry.
Welcoming the successful conclusion of the meeting, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India, as the world’s leading hub for diamond cutting and polishing, remains committed to strengthening the Kimberley Process and ensuring that natural diamonds continue to represent trust, responsibility and shared prosperity.
He stated that under India’s Chairship, the focus remains on advancing the 3Cs — Credibility, Compliance and Consumer Confidence — while working closely with all stakeholders to make the Kimberley Process more relevant and effective in an evolving global marketplace.
The Minister highlighted that the natural diamond industry supports millions of livelihoods across producing, processing and consuming nations, adding that India would continue to support a transparent, robust and consumer-responsive Kimberley Process framework.
Held under the Chairship theme of the 3Cs, the Mumbai Intersessional focused on enhancing transparency, cooperation and trust within the Kimberley Process system. Various Working Groups and Committees deliberated on governance, technical procedures, monitoring systems, statistics and artisanal diamond production, with an emphasis on improving operational efficiency and strengthening accountability across the natural diamond value chain.
KP Chair 2026 Suchindra Misra said the progress achieved during the Mumbai meeting reflected the collective commitment of Participants and Observers towards maintaining the credibility and effectiveness of the Kimberley Process amid changing global trade dynamics and consumer expectations.
He underlined that trust remains central to the natural diamond trade and stressed the need to further strengthen the Kimberley Process as a key framework for responsible sourcing, transparency and confidence in the diamond sector.
The Intersessional also emphasised the need for stronger outreach and communication efforts to highlight the positive role of the Kimberley Process in promoting responsible sourcing, livelihood generation and development outcomes in diamond-producing regions.
The discussions and recommendations from the Mumbai meeting will now be carried forward to the KP Plenary scheduled to be held in New Delhi later this year under India’s Chairship.
The meeting saw participation from KP member countries, the World Diamond Council, Civil Society Coalition members and industry stakeholders. India reiterated its commitment to promoting sustainability, transparency and responsible practices in the global natural diamond sector through the Kimberley Process framework
