Delhi/Gurugram : Mohan Lal Badoli, State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Haryana launched a sharp critique of opposition parties during a press conference held at Delhi-Haryana Bhawan, accusing them of undermining women’s empowerment by opposing key legislative measures.
Targeting parties such as the Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and All India Trinamool Congress, Badoli alleged that their resistance to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Amendment Bill and the proposed delimitation exercise had disappointed women across the country. He asserted that the legislation was a historic step aimed at ensuring 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies, and claimed that opposition parties had obstructed this opportunity, delaying women’s political participation.
Badoli emphasized that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the central government had demonstrated strong intent by convening a special session of Parliament to advance the bill. However, he alleged that despite thorough preparation, the initiative faced hurdles due to opposition resistance.
Describing the bill as a long-awaited reform after decades of delay, Badoli said its passage would have ensured equitable representation for women in both Parliament and state assemblies. He further claimed that the opposition’s stance had sparked resentment among women voters, who, according to him, would hold them accountable.
Highlighting the BJP’s record, he noted that the party has already implemented significant measures for women’s empowerment at the grassroots level, including 50 percent reservation in Panchayats and local bodies, which he said has encouraged greater female participation in governance.
He also accused the Congress of spreading misinformation regarding the bill’s impact on southern states, countering that Amit Shah had clarified in Parliament that no region would face discrimination.
Concluding his remarks, Badoli expressed confidence that the BJP would continue working toward securing women’s reservation and fulfilling its commitment by 2029. He asserted that women voters are increasingly politically aware and would remember what he termed as the opposition’s “missed opportunity.”
The BJP leader further framed the issue as a broader contest between dynastic politics and grassroots empowerment, arguing that increased participation of women from rural and middle-class backgrounds could reshape political representation. He also indicated that preparations for upcoming local body elections in Haryana are underway, with candidate announcements expected soon.
Responding to other political queries, Badoli took aim at rival leaders, suggesting that certain parties, having lost public support, are resorting to provocative statements to stay relevant in the political landscape.
