-BJP Unanimously Backs Samrat Choudhary for Top Post in Bihar
New Delhi : The political uncertainty surrounding leadership in Bihar has come to a decisive close following the resignation of Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. In a key development on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislative Party unanimously elected Samrat Choudhary as its leader, effectively clearing the way for him to assume the top post in the state.
According to party sources, Samrat Choudhary is set to be sworn in as the next Chief Minister on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. The decision was formalized during a crucial बैठक of BJP legislators held at the party’s office in Patna. The meeting was overseen by the party’s state observer and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and was attended by senior leaders including Vijay Kumar Sinha. Following a unanimous consensus, Chouhan officially announced Choudhary’s name as the legislative party leader.
Expressing gratitude, Samrat Choudhary thanked the BJP’s central leadership for reposing faith in him. In a message shared on social media platform X, he said he was deeply honored by the trust placed in him and committed to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Following his selection, congratulatory messages began pouring in from across the political spectrum. Upendra Kushwaha, President of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, extended his best wishes, expressing confidence in Choudhary’s leadership as he steps into the new role.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar formally submitted his resignation to Syed Ata Hasnain, completing all constitutional formalities. After stepping down, he addressed party workers and the public through a message on X, reflecting on his tenure. He highlighted that since the formation of the first NDA government in 2005, the state had witnessed sustained efforts toward maintaining law and order and advancing development.
Nitish Kumar emphasized that his government worked inclusively for all sections of society, irrespective of caste, community, or religion. He pointed to progress across key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, electricity, and agriculture, along with notable initiatives aimed at empowering women and youth.
With a leadership transition now underway, Bihar is set to witness a new political phase under Samrat Choudhary, as expectations rise regarding the future direction of governance in the state.
