Iran : Mass Mourning Observed in Iran on 40th Day of Ayatollah Khamenei’s Death

New Delhi : Large-scale mourning ceremonies were held in Bushehr and other parts of Iran to mark the 40th day since the death of Ali Khamenei, Irani govt’s news media reported.

According to different media reports, Khamenei was killed in attacks on February 28, 2026, following which a 40-day national mourning period was observed across the country. To commemorate the occasion, assemblies, processions, and tribute events have been organised nationwide.

Thousands of people gathered in Bushehr and other cities, with large crowds participating in remembrance ceremonies to pay homage to the late leader. The events come at a time of heightened regional tensions, adding further significance to the public response.

Observers view the large turnout as a reflection of public sentiment and a demonstration of unity, as citizens came out in significant numbers to honour Khamenei’s legacy. Reports suggest that many of these gatherings were spontaneous in nature, underscoring widespread participation.
