New Delhi : The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush organised Yoga Mahotsav–2026 in Lonar. The event created history by entering the Asia Book of Records for the largest number of people performing Trikonasana together.
Around 5,000 people gathered early in the morning to take part in the Common Yoga Protocol, turning Lonar into a hub of wellness and unity.
Union Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said the event marks the beginning of the 75-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga 2026. He highlighted that yoga helps improve physical health, mental well-being, and emotional balance.
He also spoke about the importance of healthy traditional foods like millets and natural ingredients in boosting immunity.
Monalisa Dash, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Ayush, said yoga is one of India’s greatest contributions to the world and promotes harmony between mind and body.
The event included yoga demonstrations led by experts, covering exercises, breathing techniques, and meditation. It also showcased special initiatives like yoga for air travel, yoga for lifestyle diseases, and a campaign encouraging daily practice.
The programme officially launched preparations for the 12th International Day of Yoga in 2026, which will focus on health issues like lifestyle diseases and elderly care, while also exploring the use of new technologies like AI in yoga.
Overall, the event highlighted India’s efforts to promote yoga as a global movement for better health and well-being.
