New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha, expressing serious concern over the ongoing West Asia conflict and its far-reaching impact on India and the global economy.

He said the situation in the region has remained tense for over three weeks, affecting economies and livelihoods worldwide. External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri have already briefed Parliament on the developments. The Prime Minister noted that the world community is urging all sides to find a quick and peaceful resolution.

Highlighting India’s concerns, he said the crisis has created economic, security, and humanitarian challenges. The region is crucial for India’s trade and is a key source of crude oil and natural gas, making the situation particularly sensitive.

Since the start of the conflict, over 3.75 lakh Indians have been brought back safely, while those still in the region are being assisted through advisories, helplines, and 24×7 control rooms set up by Indian missions. He added that he has personally spoken with several world leaders, who have assured the safety of Indian citizens.

Despite challenges in shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz, the government is working to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel and essential goods. India has also strengthened its preparedness with strategic petroleum reserves of over 5.3 million metric tonnes, while efforts are underway to expand this capacity further.

The Prime Minister said India has taken several long-term steps to reduce dependence on imports, including increasing refining capacity, promoting ethanol blending, and expanding railway electrification. These measures are helping reduce fuel consumption and improve energy security.

On agriculture, he assured that India has sufficient food grain stocks, and preparations are in place for smooth Kharif sowing. Adequate arrangements for fertilizers have also been made to tackle any disruptions.

Calling for unity, the Prime Minister emphasized that India must present a strong and united voice on the global stage regarding the crisis, while continuing to safeguard national interests and support its citizens at home and abroad.
