New Delhi : The Government has rolled out a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server aimed at enabling seamless integration between Artificial Intelligence tools and official statistical databases. The development was announced in the Rajya Sabha by Rao Inderjit Singh, who holds independent charge of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and the Ministry of Planning, along with responsibilities in the Ministry of Culture.

He said that the newly introduced system allows AI applications to securely access authenticated government data through the National Statistical Portal, eSankhyiki, thereby strengthening data-driven decision-making and digital governance.

The minister said that initially launched in a beta phase with seven major statistical datasets—including key indicators such as employment, inflation, and industrial output—the MCP server has now been significantly expanded. It currently provides access to 21 statistical products available on the eSankhyiki platform, enhancing its scope and usability.
