Ghorakhal/Uttarakhand : Emphasising the changing face of global conflict, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that warfare today extends far beyond traditional battlefields, encompassing economic strength, cyber capabilities, energy resilience, and even food security.

Virtually addressing the Raising Day and Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Sainik School Ghorakhal, he highlighted that modern conflicts can weaken nations through non-conventional means such as cyber, space, and information warfare. In this evolving scenario, he stressed the need for not just a technologically advanced military, but also a vigilant and prepared citizenry ready to stand united in times of crisis.

While acknowledging the Government’s continuous efforts under the leadership of Narendra Modi to modernise the armed forces with advanced technologies, Shri Singh underlined the equally critical role of citizens—especially the youth. He called upon them to cultivate mental resilience, discipline, and intellectual clarity to effectively respond to emerging challenges.

Drawing from the concept of VUCA—Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous—the Defence Minister encouraged students to redefine it as Vision, Understanding, Courage, and Adaptability, equipping themselves to navigate an increasingly complex world.

Highlighting key government initiatives, Rajnath Singh noted the decision to establish 100 new Sainik Schools across the country under the Public-Private Partnership model, aimed at instilling values of discipline and national service among a larger section of youth. He also pointed out the expansion of the National Cadet Corps, with its capacity increased from 17 lakh to 20 lakh cadets.

Terming the inclusion of girls in Sainik Schools as a transformative step, he said it marks a significant boost to Nari Shakti, with young women poised to emerge as leaders across diverse fields in the years to come.

Congratulating the institution on completing 60 years of service, Shri Singh lauded its legacy of excellence. Sainik School Ghorakhal has produced over 800 cadets for the National Defence Academy and more than 2,000 officers for the Armed Forces through various entry routes.

Expressing confidence in the institution’s future, he said the school will continue to nurture disciplined, committed leaders dedicated to nation-building. He also acknowledged distinguished alumni, including M K Katiyar, as a source of inspiration for the younger generation.
