Gurugram, March 28, 2017 : Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd (HMSI) has celebrated the successful completion of Project Harit Udaan – a community tree plantation drive to support rural livelihood ) in collaboration with the NGO, SankalpTaru Foundation.
The green project which started in February 2016 has now completed with 1 Lac fruit-bearing tree plantations. Celebrating this milestone, the symbolic 1,00,001th tree plantation was done by Mr. Takanori Maruyama – Director, General & Corporate Affairs, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. and other senior members from Honda 2Wheelers.
Elaborating on how Project Harit Udaan is making a difference, Mr. Harbhajan Singh, Senior Vice President & Director, General Affairs, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd said,
“With over 1 lac plantations successfully completed in such short time, Project Harit Udaan has been a huge success. Honda has positively empowered over 750 villagers. New techniques resulting in 15 times more tree plantation will yield 3 times more harvest from the same land area and help farmers generate nearly 770 lac rupees income from the estimated 1,550 tonnes of fruits produce. Additionally, the afforestation has created 300 acre green cover, created carbon sinks in villages located near industrial belts. With more such CSR initiatives like the Project Harit Udaan in the pipeline, Honda is committed to empower communities and accelerate self-sustainable ecosystem in future as well.”

Farmers get benefit of “More Crop per Drop” with Harit Udaan!
This project is supporting those rural farming communities who were earlier dependent mainly on rainfall for irrigation and were using low-yielding traditional methods of farming.
Honda’s Harit Udaan has introduced farmers to new and integrated farming techniques like:
– Introduced new soil and water testing technologies of farm land before plantation
– Introduced techniques like automated drip irrigation system for most utilization of limited water
– Introduced ultra-high density farming for upto 15 times more yield on same land.
– Provided high yield producing saplings of fruit trees (pomegranate, mango, guava, lemon etc.
– All trees are geo-tagged and can be monitored real-time through an online dashboard.
– Farmer training programs are being conducted by expert agronomists.
– Special preference to women beneficiaries and differently-abled people.
