Indian Parliamentary Delegation Participates Actively in 153rd IPU Assembly

MPs engage in discussions on health, peace, human rights, terrorism and emerging technologies; delegation interacts with Indian diaspora

New Delhi: Members of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation participated in various sessions, committee meetings, workshops and debates during the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), contributing to deliberations on global health, peace and security, democracy, human rights, terrorism and emerging technologies.

Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, MP, Lok Sabha and member of the IPU Committee on Health, participated in the Committee’s sessions and also accompanied its members during a field visit.

Shri Harivansh, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, participated in meetings of the 153rd IPU Assembly and exercised India’s Right of Reply to remarks made by Pakistan on Kashmir. Addressing the Assembly, he stated that Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India and asserted that Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on India’s internal affairs.

Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, MP, Lok Sabha, participated in the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights. He also took part in the debate on the draft resolution titled “Inclusive social development for all: Parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and empowerment of people living with disabilities.”

Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, MP, Lok Sabha, attended the meeting of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security and participated in the debate on “Shaping peaceful futures: Parliamentary diplomacy, mediation and dialogue for lasting peace.”

Dr. Sasmit Patra, MP, Rajya Sabha, participated in a panel discussion of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security on the “Role of parliaments in securing peace in the age of military artificial intelligence.” He also took part in the deliberations of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights and contributed to the drafting of the aforementioned resolution.

Shri N.K. Premachandran, MP, Lok Sabha, participated in a workshop on “Strengthening parliamentary response to terrorism: introducing the IPU reference framework.” He also participated in a separate workshop on “Critical minerals for shared prosperity: strengthening parliamentary oversight.”

Indian High Commission Hosts Cultural Programme

In the evening, the Indian High Commission hosted a cultural programme in honour of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation. Following the event, members of the delegation interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, providing an opportunity to engage with the community and discuss issues of mutual interest.

The participation of the Indian parliamentarians across multiple IPU forums reflected India’s engagement in international parliamentary diplomacy and its contribution to discussions on peace, security, inclusive development, human rights, health, counter-terrorism and emerging technologies.
