Moscow Indicates Talks Are Underway Over Possible Transfer of S-400 Air Defence System to a Friendly Country
Moscow : The Kremlin has indicated that the possible relocation of the Russian-made S-400 air defence system currently in Turkey is under discussion, with the option of transferring the system to another friendly country reportedly on the agenda.
According to reports by RT Hindi, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said discussions concerning the future location of the S-400 system were ongoing between the parties concerned.
Peskov said the matter of moving the system from Turkey to a friendly country was being considered and that work on the issue was currently underway.
The Kremlin spokesperson did not provide details about the country that could potentially receive the system or indicate whether a final decision had been reached.
The development comes against the backdrop of the long-running controversy surrounding Turkey’s acquisition of the S-400 Triumf air defence system from Russia. Turkey began receiving the system in 2019, a move that triggered strong objections from the United States and resulted in Washington removing Ankara from the F-35 fighter programme.
The latest remarks from Moscow suggest that discussions over the S-400’s future deployment remain active, although the exact destination and timeline have not been disclosed.
