Google CEO says White House Accord provides a framework for safe development while advancing economic and scientific benefits

New Delhi/Washington, D.C.: Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, shared details of his meeting with US President Donald Trump and senior US government and technology leaders on the development of “Super Intelligence” and responsible artificial intelligence.

In a post on X, Pichai said it was an important discussion involving President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, administration officials and technology leaders. He said participants also signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence.

Pichai highlighted Google’s continued investment in advanced technology, saying the company has invested hundreds of billions of dollars over the past two years alone, with further investments planned across the technology stack.

According to Pichai, these investments are aimed at developing products and services that can deliver practical benefits for individuals and businesses, while also supporting local communities and strengthening public trust in emerging technologies.

Google stresses AI safety and safeguards

Pichai said technological progress must be accompanied by responsible innovation. He outlined Google’s focus on testing and evaluating its AI systems before their wider release.

The company’s approach includes testing, evaluations, red-teaming and other safeguards designed to identify and address potential misuse and problems related to AI system behaviour.

He said Google releases models and products only after they have undergone thorough review, with safety considerations forming an important part of the development process.

Industry cooperation on AI norms

Pichai also emphasised the importance of cooperation among technology companies in establishing common industry norms and responsible-development practices.

He said Google is committed to working with other industry leaders to strengthen safeguards and build greater public confidence in advanced AI technologies.

Referring to the White House Accord and Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities signed during the meeting, Pichai described the agreement as a basis for further cooperation, saying it contains tangible measures aimed at supporting the safe development of advanced AI while enabling the technology’s potential economic and scientific benefits.

The meeting and accord reflect the growing focus in Washington and the technology industry on balancing rapid AI innovation, economic opportunities, public trust and safeguards as increasingly advanced AI systems are developed.
