Yash Dabas elected president, Riya Chhawdi secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh joint secretary; independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen secures vice-president post
New Delhi: The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections concluded on Saturday with the declaration of the final results, with ABVP candidates winning three of the four key central posts.
Yash Dabas was elected DUSU president, while Riya Chhawdi won the secretary’s post and Lakshya Raj Singh was elected joint secretary. The vice-president’s post went to independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen.
The election campaign had primarily witnessed a contest between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), along with candidates from other student organisations and independents.
Riya Chhawdi Wins Secretary’s Post
ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi registered a victory in the secretary’s contest by a margin of more than 7,000 votes. She is originally from Badarpur in Delhi and comes from a farming family.
Chhawdi began her academic journey at Sri Aurobindo College, affiliated with Delhi University, and is currently pursuing the fourth year of the BA Programme. She has also been active in sports and has represented her college as an inter-college basketball player.
Following the announcement of the results, ABVP supporters celebrated on the university campus, with drums and traditional percussion adding to the festive atmosphere.
With victories in the posts of president, secretary and joint secretary, ABVP has secured three positions on the four-member central panel of the DUSU.
In a video shared on ABVP’s social media handle, Chhawdi said that she contested the election with a focus on issues concerning female students. She said she would work to ensure that women students do not face discrimination or difficulties on campus.
The results have brought the 2026-27 DUSU election process to a close, with the new office-bearers set to take charge of the students’ union.
