New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar chaired a meeting of the Consultative Committee on India’s relations with West Asia in New Delhi on Monday, with discussions focusing on India’s longstanding partnerships and interests in the region.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s close and multifaceted ties with the Gulf and West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region, covering key areas such as trade, investment, energy, maritime cooperation and people-to-people relations.
The External Affairs Minister also underscored the government’s efforts to safeguard the welfare and interests of around 10 million Indians living in the region, amid the continuing conflict and instability in West Asia.
He stressed the importance of ensuring energy and fertiliser security while maintaining India’s trade and connectivity links despite the ongoing regional conflict.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in West Asia, with India closely monitoring developments and taking measures to protect its citizens and secure critical supplies, including energy and fertilisers.
