Indore: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, inaugurated the Indore Metro Priority Corridor-2 on Saturday, marking a major milestone in the city’s urban transport infrastructure.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu was also present at the inauguration ceremony.
The newly inaugurated Phase-I (Reach-II) covers approximately 11 km and includes 11 stations, connecting Super Corridor-3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha. The corridor has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,850 crore.
With the opening of the new corridor, the Indore Metro network now has 16 operational stations spanning around 17 km, with the cumulative project cost reaching approximately ₹4,370 crore.
Speaking at the event, Manohar Lal said the Metro would provide citizens with a faster, safer, more comfortable and reliable mode of transportation, while improving connectivity between residential areas, commercial hubs and employment centres.
The Union Minister said Metro Rail is not merely a transportation project but also an important instrument for economic growth, urban transformation and social inclusion. He added that greater reliance on public transport would help reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption and emissions.
Manohar Lal congratulated the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), officials, engineers, workers and all other stakeholders involved in the project.
