New Delhi : Russia and India discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between their highest judicial institutions during a meeting between Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov and Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant on the sidelines of the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi.
The two sides reviewed opportunities for closer coordination on the international stage and reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward previously agreed areas of judicial cooperation.
During the meeting, Igor Krasnov said the continued expansion of Russian-Indian cooperation, founded on the principles of a special and privileged strategic partnership, is supported by the warm and friendly relations between the two countries’ leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The officials also reviewed progress under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier between the two sides. The agreement was positively assessed as an important framework for further institutional cooperation.
As part of the next phase of engagement, the Russian side has prepared a draft two-year Programme of Cooperation and submitted it to its Indian counterparts for consideration. The proposed programme contains a range of initiatives aimed at promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries’ judicial institutions.
The meeting underlined the importance of sustained institutional dialogue and coordination as India and Russia continue to deepen their longstanding strategic partnership.
