New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the centenary celebrations of Delhi’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on September 5 at 7 PM, where he is also expected to address the gathering. SRCC, part of Delhi University, ranks among India’s premier institutions of higher education and holds a distinguished reputation in the fields of commerce, economics, and management.
Founded in 1926 by noted industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram, the college has spent a century shaping generations of scholars, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and nation-builders.
A fitting overlap with Teachers’ Day
The timing adds extra significance to the occasion, as the centenary celebration coincides with Teachers’ Day — a day the country sets aside to honor the contributions of teachers and educators in shaping generations and strengthening society’s foundations.
According to media reports, the Prime Minister is also expected to interact directly with students during the event, taking the opportunity to hear their views.
A returning connection
Several reports point out that this isn’t Modi’s first visit to the college — he had addressed SRCC students back in 2013, while serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Given that history, his visit this time around on Teachers’ Day is being seen as particularly meaningful.
A political dimension too
Beyond the ceremonial aspect, the visit is also being read as a significant move by the Bharatiya Janata Party to connect with Gen Z. Political observers note that the BJP appears to be actively working to build outreach with younger voters as part of a broader push to strengthen its political standing at the current juncture.
