New Delhi : Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a meeting in New York with top executives from Marsh Re, including President and CEO Dean Klisura, SVP and General Counsel Katherine J. Brennan, and Devanshu Dhyani, the firm’s Head of Strategy and Corporate Development.
During the discussion, Sitharaman made the case for India as a destination for global professional-services and risk-management firms, pointing to a mix of factors working in the country’s favor: a large domestic market, a deep talent pool, growing infrastructure, strong digital capabilities, and a business environment that’s increasingly geared toward reform.
She backed this up by citing India’s economic momentum, noting that the country remains the fastest-growing major economy globally — a claim reinforced by GDP growth of 7.8% in the first quarter of FY 2026-27.
Marsh Re signals plans to deepen India presence
For its part, the Marsh Re delegation spoke positively about the Indian government’s reform-focused approach, expressing interest in growing the company’s footprint in the country further. They pointed specifically to India’s level playing field and its well-regarded insurance regulator, IRDAI, as factors that make the market attractive.
The company also flagged its growing interest in GIFT City, India’s international financial services hub, noting that it has been ramping up engagement with the financial ecosystem there across a range of products and services.
