New Delhi: The Delhi government has stepped up efforts to make public transport cleaner, safer and more convenient, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launching a series of transport and electric mobility initiatives on Thursday.
Chief Minister Gupta flagged off 50 new zero-emission electric buses and launched the Delhi–Rewari interstate e-bus service, aimed at strengthening public transport connectivity between Delhi and the wider National Capital Region (NCR).
She also inaugurated the Tehkhand Automated Testing Station (ATS) and dedicated new public EV charging stations at the Hasanpur and Ghazipur depots.
Tehkhand Testing Station to Improve Vehicle Fitness Checks
The Tehkhand facility is Delhi’s second Automated Testing Station and is designed to conduct fitness tests for around 72,000 vehicles annually, including heavy and light motor vehicles as well as two-wheelers. Automated testing is intended to make vehicle fitness assessments more systematic and help improve roadworthiness and safety standards.
Boost to Electric and Interstate Public Transport
The addition of 50 new 12-metre zero-emission electric buses will further expand Delhi’s clean public transport fleet. The new Delhi–Rewari e-bus service is expected to provide an additional public transport option for commuters travelling between Delhi and southern Haryana, strengthening connectivity across the NCR.
The new public EV charging facilities at Hasanpur and Ghazipur are also expected to support the growing electric mobility ecosystem by improving charging access for electric vehicles.
The Delhi government said the initiatives form part of a broader effort to modernise the city’s transport infrastructure while reducing emissions and improving commuter convenience.
BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Delhi Cabinet Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh were present during the programme.
With additional electric buses, improved vehicle fitness testing, stronger EV charging infrastructure and better inter-state connectivity, Delhi is seeking to build a cleaner, safer and future-ready urban transport network.
