New Delhi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a productive meeting with Vitor Silva, President of the Africa, India and Middle East (AIM) region at Michelin, to discuss the company’s future plans for expanding its presence in India.
The discussions focused on Michelin’s manufacturing expansion, investments, local sourcing, exports and research and development (R&D) in India. Particular emphasis was placed on promoting innovation, road safety and sustainability, along with greater collaboration between Michelin and Indian startups.
Goyal highlighted the strength and rapid growth of India’s automotive ecosystem, noting that the country offers significant opportunities for global companies to expand their manufacturing and innovation footprints.
He emphasised the potential to “Make in India, innovate in India and export from India”, reflecting the government’s broader vision of strengthening domestic manufacturing, developing local supply chains and positioning India as a competitive global production and export hub.
The engagement with Michelin also underlines the growing importance of advanced R&D, sustainable mobility and technology-driven solutions in India’s automotive sector.
In essence, the meeting explored new avenues for Michelin to deepen its manufacturing, investment, sourcing, R&D and export operations in India, while contributing to innovation, road safety and sustainable growth in the country’s automotive industry.
