New Delhi : The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 135.871-km four-lane access-controlled corridor on National Highway-15 from Baihata Chariali near Guwahati to Tezpur in Assam at an estimated cost of ₹8,970.20 crore.
A key feature of the project is the construction of a 4.9-km Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Tezpur Bypass, which will be developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force to strengthen strategic infrastructure.
According to the government, the new corridor is expected to double the average travel speed, reduce travel time by nearly 50 percent, enhance road safety, and provide seamless connectivity between major economic, social and logistics hubs in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The project is also expected to accelerate the development of modern transport infrastructure and boost regional growth across the Northeast, while improving connectivity for trade, tourism and defence logistics.
