Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026 Introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, August 4: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Rao Inderjit Singh, introduced the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

The proposed legislation seeks to provide a comprehensive statutory framework for the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) with the objective of enabling it to emerge as a globally recognised centre of excellence in Statistical Sciences and allied fields.

According to the Statement of Objects and Reasons of the Bill, the legislation also aims to provide for matters connected with or incidental to the functioning, governance and development of the Institute.

The Bill is intended to strengthen the institutional framework of the Indian Statistical Institute and support its role in advancing research, education and innovation in statistics and related disciplines.
