New Delhi, August 3: Congress MP from Rohtak, Deepender Singh Hooda, along with fellow Haryana Members of Parliament Jayprakash (JP), Varun Mullana, Satpal Brahmachari, and Karmbir Bauddh, staged a protest in the Parliament premises on Monday, demanding that Haryana be designated as the host or co-host state for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Raising the issue, the Congress MPs argued that Haryana has consistently produced some of India’s finest sportspersons and has made a significant contribution to the country’s medal tally at international sporting events, including the Commonwealth Games.
During the protest, the MPs questioned the Centre’s approach to hosting the event, asking: “Why does Haryana give medals, but Gujarat gets the sports?”
The Congress leaders maintained that Haryana’s strong sporting legacy, world-class athletes and proven contribution to Indian sports make it a deserving candidate to host or co-host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
