Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced its Monsoon Session on Monday with members paying tributes to sitting and former legislators who passed away in recent months. The proceedings of the first day were dedicated to remembering their contributions to public life and the state legislature.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to the departed members, acknowledging their service to the people of Uttar Pradesh and their contributions to the democratic process. The Leaders of all Opposition leaders also paid homage to the departed members of the Assembly.
Among those remembered was Alam Badi Azmi, a five-time Samajwadi Party MLA from the Nizamabad Assembly constituency, who passed away on July 23, 2026, at the age of around 91. He was regarded as the oldest serving legislator in Uttar Pradesh.
The House also paid tribute to 21 former members, including Bhola Pandey, Amitabh Namaniya, Subba Ram, Jagannath Choudhary, Rampyare Azad, Gopinath Verma, Yashpal Singh, Radheshyam Bhartiya, Sangram Singh, Harinarayan Rajbhar, Dr. Bhagwat Dayal, Arun Kumar Munna, Omvati Devi, Mohar Singh, Afsar Yu Ahmad, Tejbhan Singh, Rudrapratap Singh, Pyarelal Sankhwar, Onkar Singh, Rajendra Tripathi and Hanumant Singh.
As a mark of respect, members of the Assembly observed a two-minute silence in memory of the departed legislators before the House concluded the obituary references and proceeded with the day’s business.
